Introduction
The second episode of All-Star Academy SHOWCASE took place yesterday on the eve of Halloween. The increasing confidence of the students and even the promise of a couple of big-name appearances was sure to illuminate what would no doubt be fantastic outing for ACW and its growing fanbase all across Canada. Attendance was up from last episode’s 568, jumping up to 671 and those extra fans certainly added to what was a great atmosphere for everybody participating on the episode. In addition to an already decently-booked card, the opening match consisted of a 10-Men Battle Royale featuring some of the budding Academy recruits; the idea was that the last two men remaining would join forces to take on the Heirs of Wrestling (Frank Pierce and Ryan Gallway) for the ACW Tag Team Titles on a future broadcast of ACW Courage.
10-Men Battle Royale for a shot at the ACW Tag Team Titles
The fans got going right off the bat, showering particularly John Sarsgaard and The SOBs with some good attention, both of those men having great outings while being guests on ACW's recent televion broadcasts. Ulf German was unceremoniously disposed of first after cutting an anti-American and Canadian promo prior to the match, as well as running down the other nine competitors. This left nine other gladiators vying for victory. The SOBs quickly showed off their skills in the ring, using some creative double-team sequences to rid the ring of John 'The Hammer' Smith and JP Boudreau.Surprise entrant Avis Flyfield had a fantastic showing as well, maneuvering the big man Malk Al-Haq out of the ring with a Hurricanrana counter to a powerbomb attempt. Avis tried to the skin the cat, but got thrown out and over by Orlando Grant. Orlando then took the battle to The End, throwing him over the top rope as well. This left a final four of Sarsgaard, Orlando Grant and The SOBs. The SOBs worked together and tried for another double-team elimination, but Orlando shoved Selby over the top rope following some nifty footwork. Sheamus, after a huge scuffle with Sarsgaard, was tossed over simultaneously.
Winners: Orlando Grant and John Sarsgaard
ACW World Champion Andy Sharp made a surprise appearance
Fans were puzzled when 'War' by Sick Puppies blared over the speakers, but once the ACW World Champion made a shocking appearance after bursting through the curtains... there was no more confusion to be had. Giving a passionate speech, Andy ran down the list of champions before him and said he was happy to be included in that class, stating what it meant to be able to hold the belt for a second time. He praised the fine ring work of the students and wished them nothing but good things for the road ahead adding that he'd be watching every episode. He saluted the fans for their unwavering support, and did a little hyping for ACW's upcoming SuperShow, END GAME 2009, before departing to a huge crowd reaction.
Ulf German vs. JP Boudreau
Pissed with his early elimination in the Battle Royale earlier and the part that JP Boudreau played in it, it was very easy to see and needless to explain just why Ulf German was on the warpath. JP took the battle to him early with some great matwork, wrestling circles around the bigger man and keeping him wrapped up until a nasty spill into the steel steps on the outside gave Ulf control. He took control with several power moves and locked JP in a Camel Clutch variation for nearly a minute. JP fought back with a couple suplexes and tripped him up for the Quebec Clover Leaf, but an eyerake led to Ulf getting the upper hand. Ulf German followed up with his One Effeciency finisher (Jackknife Powerbomb) and that was all she wrote. 1-2-3, and Ulf walked out with his head held high.Winner: Ulf German
Jack Harris vs. Vick Victory
Vick Victory was a new signee to the All-Star Academy. At a very unimposing 5’5” and probably only 145 pounds soaking wet, it was hard for him to get too much crowd support... especially when his opponent was a near seven-foot, three hundred pound monster in the best shape of his life. Vick Victory was given two free shots and he made the most of them, hitting Harris in the stomach. That didn’t work too well when the so-called Chancellor of Excellence simply booted Victory in the gut and drove him damn near through the canvas with a deadly Chokeslam/Spinebuster combo. Three seconds later and it was clear Vick Victory had some more training to do. Harris snatched the microphone after the match and derided the fact that he had been confined to the Academy, citing he’d come moments away from wrestling for the Scorpion Fighting Title. He promised big things to come and stated very soon, he’d be holding gold amongst the best in ACW. Harris' very unique Pikey accent made it hard for some people to really grasp what he was saying, but the menacing look on The Unit's face more or less summed it up -- Jack Harris had sounded a warning and put not only the students of Academy on alert, but also the superstars of ACW.Winner: Jack Harris
The SOBs vs. The End & John 'The Hammer' Smith
In a very fast-paced battle, The SOBs did battle with The End and John 'The Hammer' Smith. The opening minutes saw Sheamus and Selby blitz Smith with several tandem moves before Selby was put down by a sick clothesline from Smith on the outside. The End and Smith took turns teeing off on Selby with a good combo of power moves until he made the big tag. From there, Sheamus went to town on both guys, hitting an impressive Reverse DDT/Flatliner combination on both The End and John Smith. The match wrapped up with the S**tfaced Facebuster being hit on The End followed by the Celtic Press (Somersault Legdrop) adding insult to injury. That gave the identical Irish twins a huge victory and a lot of momentum to move forward with. While the Irish brothers celebrated, The End and Smith shared a unfriendly stare.Winners: The SOBs
Conclusion
The fans went home pleased for the evening after a hot tag team match closed out the show. Joe Bishop and SilverHAWK were said to be extremely encouraged with the progression of some of the students, paying special props to not only The SOBs for their advanced transformation, but also John Sarsgaard and Orlando Grant for playing a potentially great hardworker/entertainer duo. SilverHAWK especially mentioned that Orlando Grant had all the skills needed to break out within the next few months. All in all, a great night for the up-and-coming stars of ACW. The next episode of SHOWCASE was revealed to be taking place within the next 10 to 14 days, and initial plans for that episode appear very promising!
